One of actor Arun Vijay’s upcoming projects is a film titled Boxer. Last November, the first look poster of Boxer was unveiled. In the film, to be directed by Vivek, Arun is rumoured to be playing a boxer. On Monday, the makers revealed that Ritika Singh of Irudhi Suttru fame has been signed to play the leading lady. She will be seen playing a sports journalist in the film.

Speaking to the Times of India, Vivek said, “Ritika plays a sports journalist who aspires to become a boxer. I wanted someone who knows the sport and can act well. Ritika is a mix of both. Her role is an important one. In fact, after I roped her in, I added several layers to her character based on her real-life skills. When she heard the script, she was very excited.”

Vivek went on to add that this isn’t another run-of-the-mill heroine, but a character that adds soul to the film. The team is currently finalising the rest of the cast and crew, and the film is most likely to go on the floors in a couple of months. It’s worth mentioning that Arun has, over the last few months, shared pictures and videos of his aggressive workout sessions and going by the effort, it looks like it could all be for Boxer.

Arun Vijay, who has been around for over two decades, is one of the most underrated actors of Tamil cinema. It can be said it’s only after playing the antagonist in Gautham Menon’s Yennai Arindhaal where he shared screen space with Ajith Kumar, did he really get noticed for his acting prowess and ever since the film’s release, his career took a detour. Last seen playing an entrepreneur in Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Arun has an interesting line-up of films. Among the projects currently in his kitty, Magizh Thirumeni’s Thadam looks really exciting and it’s most likely his next release. He is also part of Prabhas’s multilingual film Saaho, in which he’s believed to be playing a crucial role.
