Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma is currently directing Officer, which has Nagarjuna in the lead. The film is nearing completion and we hear that he will be moving on to his next project that will have Nag’s son Akhil in the lead.

The director announced this project on the microblogging site Twitter. His tweets in this regard were: “Just love the circle of life @iamnagarjuna produced my debut #Shiva and now after some 25 years I produced Nagarjuna’s #Officer and now in a full circle Nagarjuna is producing @AkhilAkkineni8’s film with me as director.”

Going on to reveal the gist of the new film’s plot, he tweeted: “The @AkhilAkkineni8 film am making is a very highly intense and extremely realistic action film and not at all a young cute love story.. it’s a very hard love story at its core but emotionally packaged with a very high degree of sensitive violence mixed with tremendous love.”

Akhil’s last outing, Hello, which was directed by Vikram Kumar, turned out to be a box office dud and the young star is now keen on reviving his career. All he needs now is a break and is working towards it by signing up films with successful directors. Akhil’s next film will be with director Venky Atluri, whose last release Tholi Prema was a big hit.

Incidentally, Ram Gopal Varma made his debut as director in 1989 with Shiva, which had Nagarjuna playing the lead role. The film went on to win several awards, including the Nandi Award for Best Director, Nandi Award for Best First Film of a Director and the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Telugu.

Ram Gopal Varma went on to direct its Hindi version, which again featured Nag in the lead, with which the star made his Bollywood debut. In 1992, the director teamed up again with Nag for Antham, which was a bilingual that released in Hindi under the title Drohi. After over 25 years, Nag and Ram Gopal Varma have joined hands for Officer, which has raised the expectations for the film.
