Oscar award winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty feels that it is a shame if the news concerning the film Mamaankam are to be believed. He tweeted: “If the news on #Mamankam film is to be believed, it’s a shame on the creative community of #MalayalamCinema It was one of the best scripts I had read in 2018, it had all the possibility of breaking out Malayalam Cinema in the international space, sad to see it ended up like this.”

The progress of the movie, with Mammootty in the lead, has been slow for various reasons. There were controversies over ego clashes between some of the actors and the director and other rumors but all that has been set aside with the team resuming the shooting.

It may be noted here that veteran filmmaker Padmakumar has been brought on board this project after the film’s producer insisted that he assist the debut director Sajeev Pillai. On Padmakumar being brought into the project, Sajeev Pillai said earlier to Times of India, “It’s a big project and it needs a big supportive creative team. I have consented to that and I have no problem in others being part of the project.”

The film is a historical based on a fair for the warriors and it is presumed that Unni Mukundan will be playing a warrior in it as well. It has four heroines - Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and Abhirami V Iyer and others playing supporting roles include Neeraj Madhav, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal.

Ganesh Rajavelu aka Jim Ganesh is the cinematographer and M Jayachandran is scoring the music for Mamaankam. Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the editing, and Kaecha Khamphakdee is choreographing the stunts. The film is being bankrolled by Venu Kunnampilly under the banner Kavya Films.
