Remix for a remake: AR Rahman reinvents his superhit 'Humma Humma' for OK Jaanu

Academy award winning music composer AR Rahman's superhit song "Humma Humma" from the 1995 Mani Ratnam film "Bombay" has made its way to "OK Jaanu", the Hindi remake of "OK Kanmani".

Starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, the trailer of "OK Jaanu" was released a few days ago. While Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen who played the leads in the Tamil original expressed their appreciation, South Indian fans were quite disappointed. They pointed out that the Hindi remake didn't have the same chemistry as "OK Kanmani" did.

"Humma Humma" appears in place of the "Parandhu Sellava" number from "OK Kanmani - it occurs in the segment when the two friends end up staying a night together at a hotel. Twitter isn't too impressed with the reinvention.

While "Parandhu Sellava" was decidedly playful, "Humma Humma" is on the raunchier side. The trailer for "OK Jaanu" suggests that Shaad Ali has handled the live-in relationship more boldly than Mani Ratnam did - but as fans who've watched "OKK" will attest, Shraddha and Aditya just don't seem to have the zing that Dulquer and Nithya brought to the film.
