National award-winning actor-filmmaker Samuthirakani, who touched hearts with his film Appa last year, is ready with his next directorial project titled Thondan. 

Thondan is based on a real-life incident which influenced him and is not a political film, Samuthirakani said, while speaking to Deccan Chronicle.

“The movie touches upon several topical social issues like the farmers’ plight, and jallikattu," he said. 

Talking about the film, he told DC, “Though the title has political connotations, it is not one! The film is based on a real incident where an engineering student was brutally murdered in her classroom by a senior, whose advances she spurned.”

He also said that the protagonist in his dream project is that of an ambulance driver Maha Vishnu, who is a well-wisher and wants to see everyone around him happy. 

The film also stars Vikranth and Sunainaa in important roles. 

Speaking about Vikranth's role, Samuthirakani said: 

“He essays an assistant in the ambulance. It is an emotionally challenging role and he will stand out. I believe that the film will take him to a different level.” 

Reacting to actor Varalaxi Sarath Kumar's recent exit from the Malayalam remake of Appa, Vikranth explained that she had done so following differences with the producer.
