'Rangasthalam' day 1 box-office collection: Ram Charan-starrer earns Rs 46 cr

The much-awaited Ram Charan and Samantha Akkineni starrer Rangasthalam, which released to packed houses on March 30, has been garnering positive reviews.

Ram Charan’s performance and director Sukumar’s work, along with technical aspects of the film, are being widely lauded.

According to trade sources, the film's first day earnings across the globe is estimated to be Rs 46 crore and it has reached the seventh spot on the highest day one grosser list behind films such as Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion and Agnyaathavaasi.

According to reports, on the first day of its release in the Telugu states of Andhra and Telangana, the film grossed an estimated Rs 28.8 crores. In Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, it managed to gross about Rs 4 crores. In Chennai alone, it collected Rs 25 lakhs on day one, making it the highest opener in the city for a Telugu movie.

The film’s premiere in the US earned its makers $710K pushing it to the sixth-highest premiere performance, according to a report in FirstPost. The report went on to state: “With the premiere gross of $710K from 160+ locations, Rangasthalam has also entered the top 10 box-office chart in the USA on 29 March by earning the ninth spot just below Alicia Vikander's Tomb Raider ($940K) and above Sony/Columbia's biblical drama Paul, Apostle of Christ ($645.9K).”

The film has already fetched Rs 112 crore from the sale of theatrical, music and satellite rights, and has beaten the record of Khaidi No 150’s pre-release business.

Set in the 1980s, the story centers around the fictional town of Rangasthalam, a farming village in the Godavari delta in Andhra Pradesh. The film also stars Aadhi Pinisetty, Prakash Raj and Jagapati Babu in crucial roles. Devi Sri Prasad has composed music for this venture with Rathnavelu cranking the camera and Navin Nooli editing it. Made on a budget of Rs 60 crores, the film has been bankrolled by Naveen Yerneni, Y Ravi Shankar and Mohan Cherukuri under the banner Mythri Movie Makers.
