When Rakshit Shetty’s Thugs of Malgudi, featuring Kiccha Sudeep, was announced last year, it created a lot of buzz. The buzz rose to a new high following the massive success of Rakshit’s Kirik Party and Sudeep’s Hebbuli.

However, in what will come as a disappointment to fans, the film will not be going on the floors any time soon. The film, touted to be a big-budget historical drama, was to begin shooting in May or June. But Sudeep recently announced on social media that the film has been indefinitely postponed because Rakshit has been too busy with his upcoming film Avane Sriman Narayana.

In response to a fan’s question on the status of Malgudi, Sudeep had tweeted: “#Thugs has been indefinetly postponed. Rakshit needs more time on th script as he's wrking on ASN, his nxt in line. My wshs r always wth him.”

To this, Rakshit had replied, “Thank you for the wishes Sir. Can't wait to finish ASN and start working on #Thugs Script.”

While clarifying that Kirik Party and Avane Sriman Narayana had left him with no time to work on Malgudi, Rakshit clarified that he had no more commitments lined up, and would turn his full attention on the film once Avane Sriman Narayana is completed.

Sudeep then said that he was willing to wait for the final script to shape up. Pointing out that Rakshit had been working on Malgudi three years, Sudeep quipped that while Baahubali took five years to be made, they could take five years to start on this film.
