Rajinikanth not playing gangster Haji Mastan in Ranjith’s film

Written by : TNM

Earlier this week, rumours surfaced online that superstar Rajinikanth will play gangster Haji Mastan in his next film with Kabali director Ranjith. When we did some digging, we learnt that the reports are baseless and that the project, though being made against the backdrop of Mumbai, won’t be based on the life of Haji Mastan. In fact, it won’t even be a gangster-based film but will address a very important issue that’s plaguing the country.

“It’s not based on the life of Haji Mastan, as being speculated online. People should stop spreading rumours because the film doesn’t have gangster backdrop. Ranjith is trying something new yet commercial this time. The principal shooting will commence from May. They still haven’t finalised the lead cast. Hence, the delay in going on the floors. Vidya Balan was the first choice but neither has she given her nod nor declined the offer,” a source said.

The project will be bankrolled by Dhanush. Most of the Kabali technical crew will be retained for this project as well. It is believed that Sean Roldan, post his terrific work in Power Paandi is being considered as the composer and he might be signed on in place of Santhosh Narayanan.
