Rajini’s 'Petta' gears up for Pongal release in 350 screens across Karnataka

The Rajinikanth starrer Petta is gearing up for Pongal release on January 11 and expectations are sky-rocketing. Sources in the trade circles say that the film will be released in 350 screens across Karnataka. K. Sudhakar of KVS Enterprises has acquired the Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi rights for the Karnataka region and Jack Manju of KSK Showreel has bagged its distributing rights.

While the film’s release shows signs of positivity in Karnataka, it is not so in the neighbouring states of Andhra and Telangana. With Telugu films lined up for release to cash in on the long Sankaranthi festival weekend, Petta’s release may not have an impact, it is felt. Three biggies, the NTR biopic, Kathanayakudu, starring Balayya, Vinaya Vidheya Rama starring Ram Charan Teja and Venkatesh – Varun Tej starrer F2 are the Sankaranthi releases this year.

With Rajini’s Petta having stiff competition, its result at the box office in Andhra and Telangana region will be closely watched by the trade pundits.

Petta is a Karthik Subburaj directorial that has been scheduled as a Pongal release next year. The film has Vijay Sethupathi playing an important role and this is the first time he is sharing the screen space with Rajinikanth. In the star cast of this film are Simran, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan, Megha Akash, Bobby Simha and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as well, playing important roles.

Anirudh Ravichander is composing the tunes for this gangster actioner with Tirru cranking the camera and Vivek Harshan being in charge of the editing. The rest of the technical crew includes Peter Hein from stunt choreography, Suresh Selvarajan for production designing, Kunal Rajan as sound designer, Niharika Khan and Praveen Raja as costume designers, and Baba Bhaskar and Sheriff for dance choreography. Petta also requires a lot of computer graphics for which Prime Focus has been signed up to take care of the VFX.
