India's own Grammy-winner A R Rahman turned 49 on Wednesday as thousands of fans across the country took to social media to pay their tributes to the music legend.

As Firstpost puts it:

Since Roja in 1993, Rahman has arranged the soundtrack for an entire generation of Indians, at once mystical and frenetic. While devotees play catch up with his seemingly endless repertoire, Rahman has travelled to new gigs — screenplay, philanthropy, more playback and lyrics...Like Henri Cartier Bresson gave to photography the decisive moment , Rahman has done the same in song, where he breaks the rules because he has mastered them like no other.

As a tribute to Rahman, Mumbai-based acapella group 'Voctronica' have released a new video which traces the evolution of AR Rahman and his musical journey.

According to reports, the group has selected its favourite tracks from Rahman's early films such as Roja, Bombay and Rangeela in the early 1990s, to the Oscar-winning score of Slumdog Millionaire for the mashup.

Songs like “Mustafa Mustafa,” “Rang De Basanti,” “Gangsta Blues,” and “O… Saya” are also heard.

"Evolution of A.R. Rahman is our attempt to showcase a chronological evolution of the revolutionary work of the inimitable master," the group said.
