'Petta' and 'Viswasam' complete 50 days at the box-office

Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj which marks his first time collaboration with Rajinikanth, and the Ajith starrer Viswasam, which marks his fourth time collaboration with director Siva had both hit the screens on January 10th.

Both the films have completed 50 days and are still going strong. Recently, the Petta team was seen celebrating the 50 days run, and Sun Pictures shared a few photos from the celebrations on its Twitter handle in which Superstar Rajinikanth is seen cutting a big chocolate cake along with Kalanithi Maran, Karthik Subbaraj, and Anirudh along with the entire team.

Meanwhile, Viswasam director Siva, composer D Imman, editor Ruben, cinematographer Vetri and comedy actor Robo Shankar were present in Chennai’s Rohini theatre for the 50 days celebrations along with thousands of Ajith fans.

Petta has collected an estimated total of Rs 111 crore in Tamil Nadu alone, with more than a Rs 60 crore share. Viswasam has emerged as the second top-grossing film ever in Tamil Nadu with Rs 130 crore total and it has collected a record of Rs 185 crores.

Petta was bankrolled by Sun Pictures' Kalanithi Maran, The film has Vijay Sethupathi playing the antagonist who is named Jithu and this is for the first time that he is sharing screen space with Rajinikanth. In the star cast of this film are Sasikumar, Simran, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan, Megha Akash, Bobby Simha and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Meanwhile, Viswasam has Ajith and Nayanthara as the lead pair and was produced by T. G. Thiyagarajan (Presenter), Sendhil Thiyagarajan and Arjun Thiyagarajan under the banner Sathya Jyothi Films. The film had missed simultaneous release dates in Telugu in January as Tollywood had three major movie releases during the month.The Telugu version was released across 450 theatres in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
