Owing to alleged life threats, Faisal Saif shelves Jayalalithaa biopic

Written by : TNM

Filmmaker Faisal Saif, known for helming the controversial film Main Hoon Rajinikanth, had announced a multi-lingual project titled Amma, a biopic on the late TN CM early last year. While the project has been in the making for a while, the director has been forced to shelve it following alleged life threats from Jayalalithaa's supporters and other political outfits. Kannada actor Ragini Dwivedi was set to play Jayalalithaa in the film, which was to be made in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Tamil.

Talking about how challenging it is to make a biopic, he said, “I’ve been getting several threatening calls objecting to my film. What’s disappointing is that they’re demanding the film to be not made without even seeing. My film is not about the life of Jayalalithaa, and the only connection with her is the title Amma. I don’t think the film will get made.”

Recently, the shoot of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati was disrupted and the filmmaker was slapped by activists of  the Karni Sena. They claimed that the film portrays Rani Padmavati in bad light. The film features Deepika Padukone in the titular role.
