Nikhil Gowda’s ‘Kurukshetra’ is ready, but needs Election Commission clearance

The makers of the magnum opus Kurukshetra are keen on releasing the film this summer but with the model code of conduct currently in place due to the upcoming elections, some issues have cropped up. Nikhil Gowda, son of Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who is playing Abhimanyu in this mythological flick, recently announced that he is contesting in the polls. Since any kind of promotion of candidates is prohibited under the model code of conduct, it has become necessary to get a clearance from the Election Commission for the film’s release.

Reports say that the makers of the film have approached the Election Commission for clearance so that the film may release as planned. The film’s audio launch is scheduled to happen on March 23 and the filmmakers need to wait for the clearance for this as well.

Talking about this, Kurukshetra’s producer Muniratna told Cinema Express, “The film is made in both 2D and 3D and it has got delayed due to the extensive graphics. Now, we are ready with the product and as planned, I am very keen to release this in April first week. But since Nikhil is part of our film, if I want to go ahead with the planned release date, I will have to lose out the entire Mysuru region.”

Kurukshetra, which is directed by Naganna, was initially planned as Darshan’s 50th film, but it was delayed for various reasons. The film’s technical crew includes V Harikrishna for music, Jayanan Vincent for camera work and Jo Ni Harsha for editing. Being a high budget film and a mythological, plans are on to release it in various languages, including Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and others.

Made on a budget of Rs 150 crore, Kurukshetra is bankrolled by Muniratna under his banner KCN Movies. The film has a bevy of stars in the cast including Darshan, late Ambareesh, V Ravichandran, Arjun Sarja, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Sneha, Meghana Raj, P Ravi Shankar, Sonu Sood, Nikhil Gowda, Aditi Arya and Shashi Kumar.
