Nag Ashwin plans biopic on the legendary actress Savitri

Written by : TNM

A biopic on legendary actress Savitri is in the offing and it’ll be made as a bilingual. The film will be helmed by Nag Ashwin, who made a splash with his Telugu directorial debut Yevade Subramanyam last year.

While Ashwin has already completed the script work and has even registered the title Mahanati for his film, he’s yet to finalize the lead cast, which he hopes to lock over the course of the next few weeks. Tipped to be made on a lavish budget, the director assures that the film will be a celebration of the legend.

The question that’s ringing in everybody’s mind is who will play Savitri. When we did some digging, we found that three leading heroines including Anushka Shetty are expected to be approached for the project. While it’s too early to even come to some sort of conclusion, let’s just hope the team doesn’t mess in the casting process because this project needs a very solid actress who can pull off someone as celebrated as Savitri, whose life was inspiring and equally tragic.

The regular shoot is expected to start from July and the director hopes to release the film sometime early next year. If the project materializes, it’ll be the first time that Tamil and Telugu audiences will experience a biopic.
