Months after ‘Masti Gudi’ tragedy, Sandalwood projects to now get insurance

Written by : TNM

Following the death of two actors – Anil and Uday – in a stunt gone wrong during the shooting of Masti Gudi last year, a number of filmmakers have woken up to the need for insurance in the Kannada film industry.

Following the deaths in a stunt that involved three actors jumping into a reservoir from a helicopter, the film unit faced allegations that no safety precautions were taken with regard to the two actors.

Now, a major insurance company has stepped forward to fill the void in Sandalwood. Global Insurance Brokerage Pvt Limited, which has been involved with Bollywood projects like MS Dhoni, Revolver Rani and Kahaani, and actors like Hrithik Roshan, is now offering its services in Sandalwood.

On the occasion of the company’s entry into the Kannada film industry, actors Shivrajkumar and Yash said that this was a big boon to Kannada filmmakers, but should not be misused.

Shivrajkumar said that although he is an actor and his mother, Parvathamma Rajkumar, is a producer, they had not insured their films in the past. Yash said that the recent Masti Gudi tragedy has prompted him to suggest to the makers of his upcoming film, KGF, to opt for insurance. However, Shivrajkumar advised filmmakers against making movies just for insurance purposes.

While Shivrajkumar is busy with a slew of films including Leader, Villain, Bangara s/o Bangarada Manushya, Tagaru and Mufti, Yashi is concentrating on KGF, which is slotted for release this year.
