Written by : TNM

The Mohanlal starrer Oppam cannot compete for the National Awards this year. According to the rules, members of the jury cannot have their films compete and this is supposedly the reason for this critically acclaimed film not making it to the National Awards. Sources have it that Priyadarshan, the director of Oppam, will be a part of the jury.

The crime thriller, which is based on Govind Vijayan’s story, has been scripted and directed by Priyadarshan. The film has Mohanlal, Samuthirakani, Anusree, Vimala Raman, Nedumudi Venu, and Baby Meenakshi in pivotal roles. Oppam was bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor under his banner Aashirvad Cinemas.

Released on 8th September 2016, the film went on to become a box office success, apart from garnering critical acclaim. The songs were set to tune by four debut music directors—Jim, Biby, Eldhose, and Justine of the music band - 4 Musics and the background music has been scored by Ron Ethan Yohaan.

Oppam was the third highest all-time grosser in Malayalam cinema, according to trade sources.
