Director Vinayan, who recently announced that he is making a film based on the Ramayana with Mohanlal, shared an artist’s representation of the actor as Ravana. This has triggered discussion among fans about the star playing the mythological character.

On working on a project based on the Ramayana, the director told Silverscreen in an interview, “I have a long-standing relationship with Ramayana. In fact, my fascination for stories and literature could be attributed to the legend itself. It began at the age of five when my mother would recite tales about Lord Rama. I had even written a poem about Ravana during my college days. I had always dreamt about making a movie. But when it came to the cinema, I got caught up in making smaller movies with newcomers in the lead.”

Vinayan revealed that he will be holding a meeting with Mohanlal later this month to discuss about the role. The director also said that he has read the different versions of the Ramayana and his film will tell the story through Ravana’s perspective. More details about the film is expected to be out soon after the director’s meeting with Mohanlal.

Vinayan, whose last film was based on the life of the late actor Kalabhavan Mani titled Chalakkudikaran Changathi, will be directing a sequel to the hit movie Aakashaganga, a horror flick that was released 20 years ago. The shooting for this film is going on. It may be noted here that Aakashaganga had Divya Unni, Mayoori, Madhupal and Mukesh in the lead roles. Its sequel will have debutante Arathi as well as Asif Ali, Ramya Krishnan and Prakash Raj in the star cast.

Mohanlal’s recent release, Lucifer, released to packed houses and is garnering good reviews. Being actor Prithviraj’s debut directorial, there were huge expectations on the film and looks like it has paid off well at the box office.
