‘Mersal’ audio launch on August 20, AR Rahman may perform

Written by : TNM

The highly anticipated Mersal audio launch will take place on August 20 at a grand function in Chennai’s Nehru Stadium. The film has music by AR Rahman and the double Oscar-winning composer is most likely to perform at the audio launch, according to a reliable source. While Rahman hasn’t given his final nod yet, the team is hopeful of convincing him to perform at the event.

In the film, Vijay will appear in three different roles — a panchayat head, a doctor and a magician. The actor’s comic timing will be brought on screen through the magician’s role. His portions are intended to evoke laughter and lighten up the mood, according to reliable sources. As the Panchayat head, sporting a twirled moustache, Vijay will be seen in the period portion, which has been shot in Chennai and Rajasthan.

The story is set in the 80’s and against a rural backdrop, and Nithya Menen plays Vijay’s love interest in this portion. It’s for the first time in his career that Vijay will be seen playing triple roles. He will be seen playing a father and two sons. The film, currently in its post-production stage, was shot across various exotic locations in Europe in a month-long schedule.

Being bankrolled by Sri Thenandal Studios, Mersal is tipped to be the most expensive film for the makers. The film also stars actor-filmmaker SJ Suryah as an antagonist, apart from Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in key roles. Mersal is gearing up for a grand release this Diwali.
