Superstar Rajinikanth turns 66 on Monday and legions of his fans have already started making preparations to celebrate the occasion with fanfare.

However, on Friday, it emerged that the Thalaivar is requesting his fans not to celebrate his birthday this year as a mark of respect to former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who passed away earlier this week.  Rajinikanth’s manager Riaz Ahmed shared the news on his Twitter page.

Busy shooting for Shankar’s magnum opus “2.0”, Rajinikanth has apparently decided to not celebrate his birthday even with his family and close friends. He might take the day off to just relax, but otherwise has no special plans to ring in his birthday in style. He has also requested fans to not hoist banners and stick posters around the city. Even the team of “2.0” has been advised to not plan anything special for his birthday.

Meanwhile, the shooting for “2.0” is progressing at a brisk pace and the makers are on track to release the first teaser of the film for Pongal 2017. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, industry sources claim fans might get a visual treat early next year.
