Vijay Sethupathi had confirmed in an earlier interview that he plays himself in the film. In an interview to the New Indian Express, Vijay said, “I'm playing myself in Marconi Mathai, and I'm getting the same amount of love on set that Mathai gives everyone. I'm enjoying this experience.”

In Marconi Mathai, directed by Sanil Kalathil, Jayaram is playing an ex-army man working as a security guard in a bank. Reports are that radio plays a pivotal character in the film and Marconi stands for its inventor Guglielmo Marconi.

The technical crew of Marconi Mathai includes Sajan Kalathil as the cinematographer, M Jayachandran as the music composer and Shameer Muhammed as the editor. The film is bankrolled under the banner Satyam Audios.

The shooting of the film happened in various locations in Chennai, Goa, Ernakulam and Changanacherry. Mathai Marconi is a bilingual that will be made in Tamil and Malayalam given the popularity of its lead stars Jayaram and Vijay Sethupathi in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries.

The film has been scheduled for a July 11 release.
