The Mohanlal-Priyadharshan film on Kunjali Marakkar is finally taking shape. The actor tweeted the poster on Saturday.

Incidentally, Mammootty is also doing a film on the famous naval chief of the zamorin who fought against the Portuguese in the late 16th and the early 17th century.

The Mohanlal film is titled Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham. It will be produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Santosh T Kuruvilla, and CJ Roy. The poster shows a ship caught in a storm.

Priyadharshan had previously announced that he would direct Mohanlal in a film on Kunjali Marakkar and that it would be a big budget flick. However, producer Shaji Nadeshan also came out with the announcement that Mammootty and director Santosh Sivan would be collaborating for a movie on Kunjali Marakkar. In his post on Facebook, he wrote, “Kunjali marrakkar pre production works in full swing! Shoot starts july 2018.”

Following this, director Priyadarshan said that he would wait for eight months and that if the Mammootty – Santosh Sivan project failed to materialise, he would go ahead with his. However, both films are now very much on the cards.

Mammootty and Mohanlal are Kerala's biggest superstars and although they enjoy a good friendship, their fans are forever at each others' throats. If the two films release at the same time, the competition will be even higher. Both stars have a number of films in their hand, including other historical projects. While Mammootty is working on Mamangam, Mohanlal is part of Kayamkulam Kochunni, which also stars Nivin Pauly.
