Prachi Tehlan is playing the female lead in the upcoming magnum opus Maamaankam that has Mammootty as the main lead. Prachi is the ex-captain of the Indian Netball Team which represented India in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and in other major Asian Championships in 2010-11.

On working in a Malayalam film, she had said in an interview published in pinkvilla.com, “Malayalam cinema is known for the beautiful, smart and edgy content oriented cinema they create. Though it’s the most toughest Indian language, I absolutely love that part of the country. My team is supportive, encouraging and I got to learn a lot in the entire process of doing such a big film especially as my debut in south.” In fact, she underwent rigorous training in Mohiniyattam and martial arts to get into the skin of the character, Unni Maya that she plays.

Working with the Malayalam mega star also had the actor elated as she said, “Mammooka is down to earth, friendly, a very supportive and encouraging co-actor. I would say he is a wonderful human being too who takes care of the people around him. I still remember after I requested he got me some home cooked food for me on the set because I was craving it after long being away from home when we were shooting in Kochi. He treats the entire unit with Biryani once in a while and he has got amazing knowledge in the field of entertainment and you always get to learn so much interacting with him.”

Made on a budget of Rs. 50 crore, Maamaankam began its production with debut director Sajeev Pillai wielding the megaphone. But due to creative differences with the producers, noted filmmaker M Padma Kumar was brought in by the filmmakers.

Ganesh Rajavelu aka Jim Ganesh is wielding the camera, M Jayachandran scoring the music, Sreekar Prasad in charge of the editing, and Kaecha Khamphakdee is choreographing the stunts. It is being bankrolled by Venu Kunnampilly under the banner Kavya Films.
