Music maestro Ilaiyaraaja and playback singer KJ Yesudas have collaborated to give us several chartbusters in the past. But the duo did not get to work together for the past decade or so, which was a big disappointment for the music buffs. But the two have come together after a long hiatus, with KJ Yesudas rendering a song under the music direction of Ilaiyaraaja. This is happening for the Tamil movie Tamilarasan, which has Vijay Anthony in the lead role. The song, which goes by the lyrics Poruthathu Pothum has been penned by Jayaram. It was recorded on Vishu day with the maestro engaging a live orchestra comprising 100 musicians.
Incidentally, Vijay Anthony himself is an accomplished music composer who is now an established hero. Tamilarasan is being directed by Babu Yogeswaran.
Producer G Siva in an interview to the Silverscreen said, “You will feel nostalgic if you listen to the song. After all these years, there’s not even a slight change in Yesudas’ voice. We were all pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. We felt that the song needed a strong voice such as Yesudas sir’s. After Raja sir finished composing, he agreed that we should contact him. Yesudas sir was happy with the composition and lyrics, and readily agreed.”
Tamilarasan stars Vijay Antony and Ramya Nambeesan as the lead pair with Kasturi Shankar, Yogi Babu and others in supporting roles. The shooting of this film began earlier this year and is progressing in Pondicherry right now. According to the film’s producer, the shooting is almost over with just a couple of songs that need to be shot.
The film has been produced by G Siva under his banner SNS Movies. RD Rajasekhar is cranking the camera as its cinematographer. While the songs will be out next month, Tamilarasan should appear in theatres in June.
