Speaking about the film to the Times of India, he said, “Kayamkulam Kochunni is the biggest film for almost everyone associated with it. Rosshan chettan (director Rosshan Andrrews) is leaving no stone unturned for the pre-production of the film. He's crystal clear about what he wants and being a period film, he has even made miniatures of every set that has to be used for the film.

According to sources, Nivin has been undergoing extensive and rigorous training to get into the skin of the character he would be playing in the film. He is also being trained in Kalaripayattu and horse riding by experts as his role demands it. Sanjay – Bobby duo, who had scripted several of Rosshan Andrrews’ films, are penning the script for this one as well. According to Sanjay, Nivin Pauly has started to practice horse riding and would master it before the shooting begins in Udupi.

Apart from Nivin Pauly, the star cast of Kayamkulam Kochunni includes Amala Paul, Sunny Wayne and Priyanka Thimmesh. The film will be helmed by Rosshan Andrrews, who had directed films such as Udayananu Tharam, Notebook, Evidam Swargamanu, Casanova, Mumbai Police and How Old Are You?

It may be mentioned that a film on the Robin Hood style Highwayman under the title Kayamkulam Kochunni was made way back in 1966 with Sathyan, Adoor Bhasi, Manavalan Joseph and KJ Yesudas playing pivotal roles. PA Thomas had directed the film with M Kunchacko producing it under the banner Excel Productions.
