Karthi approached to play YS Jaganmohan in 'Yatra'

Yatra, the biopic of late Andhra Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy seems to be getting bigger by the day. According to reports, the makers have approached actor Karthi to play YSR's son YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the film.

"Karthi is a highly talented actor with a huge fan following in both Telugu and Tamil. He is also a soft-spoken gentleman and his personality makes him the ideal choice to play Jagan's role. Keeping this in mind, the makers have approached him and the actor is yet to accept the offer,” sources from the film camp told TOI.

The film has Malayalam mega star Mammootty playing YS Rajasekhar Reddy. The biopic, which has gone on to the floors recently, is being directed by Mahi V Raghav and bankrolled by Vijay Chilla and Sashi Devireddy under the banner 70 mm Entertainments.

The film has a bevy of stars in the cast including Jagapathi Babu playing YSR's father YS Raja Reddy, Rao Ramesh as KVP Ramachandra Rao, who was YSR's closest friend from his medical college days and Suhasini Mani Ratnam as the former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy.

YSR, one of the most able leaders in Andhra Pradesh, was instrumental in bringing the Congress government back to power twice with his welfare schemes. He died in a plane crash on September 2, 2009 at the age of 60. YSR died in an air crash after the helicopter carrying him crashed in a dense forest. The biopic will reportedly showcase some of the important aspects of his life and his political journey.

Meanwhile, another biopic on the legendary actor and politician NTR is also taking shape in Tollywood. The film will have NTR’s son and popular actor N Balakrishna playing his dad onscreen.
