Karan Johar not to produce ‘Jersey’ Hindi remake

It was reported earlier that the Nani starrer Jersey would be remade in Hindi with Karan Johar bagging the rights. But latest reports suggest otherwise. Sources in the know say that it is true that Karan Johar had shown interest in remaking the Telugu flick but the pricing did not work out and the deal fell apart. Also, Jersey’s producer, Naga Vamsi, had expressed interest in co-producing the remake to which Karan Johar did not agree.

Eventually, Dil Raju and Allu Aravind agreed to join hands with Naga Vamsi and the three will be collaborating to bankroll the remake. According to sources, the filmmakers are in talks with some top actors in Bollywood to star in the remake and are expected to finalise the deal soon.

It may be noted here that Rana Daggubati has the Tamil remake rights of this sports drama. Reports say that Vishnu Vishal has been approached to reprise the role done by Nani in the original. Vishnu is a cricketer in real life and so is an apt choice for the role. Nelson Venkadesan is likely to wield the megaphone for this remake.

Jersey had Nani and Shraddha Srinath playing the lead pair with Sathyaraj, Brahmaji and Ronit Kamra in supporting roles. The film was bankrolled by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under the banner of Sithara Entertainments and helmed by director Gowtam Tinnanuri. The film had Anirudh composing the tunes, Navin Nooli in charge of the editing and Sanu Varghese cranking the camera.

A sports drama about a late bloomer, Jersey is a highly emotional film that offered good scope for Nani and Shraddha Srinath to perform. Nani played a 36-year-old family man, with a wife and child, whose passion for cricket makes him want to make it into the Indian cricket team.
