'Kannathil Muthamittal' Keerthana marries director Akshay Akkineni

Actor and assistant director Keerthana married director Akshay Akkineni in Chennai on Thursday. The wedding took place according to Hindu traditions, amidst the presence of the couple's family and friends.

While Keerthana is the daughter of actor-filmmaker R Parthiepan and actor Seetha, Akshay is the son of film editor Sreekar Prasad.

The bride was dressed in a peacock blue saree with a purple blouse, while the groom was dressed in a cream and gold kurta pyjama.

Several big names from the Tamil and Telugu film industries attended the wedding. Photos of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Suriya, Jyothika, actor Vivek, Prabhudeva, music director Harris Jeyraj, actor Sibi Sathyaraj, music composer and others from the industry with the couple have been doing the rounds on social media. Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and actor Vijay Sethupathi have also reportedly wished the couple.

The newlyweds had got engaged earlier this year.

Keerthana won a National Award in the Best Child Artist category for her performance in Mani Ratnam's critically acclaimed Tamil drama Kannathil Muthamittal (2002). While she received several acting offers after that, Keerthana is said to have turned them down as she wanted to work towards her directorial dreams. She has also worked as an assistant director in Mani Ratnam's Kaatru Veliyidai.

Akshay directed the Hindi adaptation of the hit Tamil film Pizza. He has also worked with director Bejoy Nambiar in Wazir and David. His father Sreekar Prasad is a multiple national award-winning editor. Akshay’s grand uncle is the legendary film producer, actor, director and cinematographer LV Prasad.
