Written by : TNM Staff

Actor Kamal Haasan, recently launched his political party Makkal Needhi Maiyam in Madurai. Although he’s ventured into politics full time, the actor has a couple of films pending release. Vishwaroopam 2, the sequel to his 2013 spy thriller Vishwaroopam is gearing up for release later this month.

Kamal Haasan from his official Facebook page has announced that the trailer for the film will be released soon.

Vishwaroopam that came out in 2013 was embroiled in controversies. Caught between two factions, Hindu Makkal Katchi (objecting to its name) and Muslim groups in Tamil Nadu (citing that the film would hurt Muslim sentiments), Kamal took on theatre owner groups when he announced his plans of premiering the movie DTH (Direct to home).

All hell broke loose when the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa defended the ban on the film. When asked why she supported the ban, she cited law and order concerns.

Eventually, allegations that the film was anti-Islamic were quashed and an amicable solution was reached when Kamal agreed to remove a few scenes from the film.

With his recent entry into politics, the film is sure to have his political ideologies and thoughts embedded into it.

Kamal has also announced his plans to work on a sequel to his 1996 film, Indian 2, with director Shankar.

Vishwaroopam 2 is being produced by Venu Ravichandran in Tamil and by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor in Hindi as Vishwaroop 2.

Actors Rahul Bose, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah are reprising their role in this film as well. While the film began production in 2013, it was later shelved due to delays and finally revived by Kamal Haasan last year.

While the teaser of Rajinikanth’s Kaala is being premiered on March 2, the two actors might lock horns on-screen as well with the release of their films.
