In response to producer Gnanavel Raja’s complaint filed at the Tamil Film Producers’ Council on Thursday, Kamal Haasan’s production company Raaj Kamal Films has now put out a statement, denying all allegations leveled against them. Producer Gnanavel Raja had accused Kamal of not repaying Rs 10 crore which he had allegedly borrowed at the time of Uttama Villain’s release in 2015.
The statement claims that Kamal did not borrow Rs 10 crore from Gnanavel Raja.

“Raaj Kamal Films had got into an arrangement with Tirupathi Brothers Film Media Private Limited (sic) to produce Uttama Villain on a first copy basis. Raaj Kamal completed all its obligations and handed over the first copy to Tirupathi Brothers (sic) as agreed. So there is no basis to say Gnanavel paid Kamal to get the film released. There is no privy between Gnanavel and Kamal in any manner,” their letter reads.
Raaj Kamal Films further warns of legal action against those who are planning to "defame Kamal Haasan and Raaj Kamal Films". Uttama Villain (2015), a comedy drama, was directed by Ramesh Aravind and written by Kamal Haasan. The film was presented by N Lingusamy in association with Kamal Haasan and produced by S Chandrahasan for Raaj Kamal Films International and N Subash Chandrabose for Thirrupathi Brothers Film Media.
The letter further claims that Kamal Haasan had allotted dates and agreed to make himself available for story discussion with Thirrupathi Brothers in the second week of May 2015. However, with Thirrupathi Brothers allegedly not reverting to them, the story never took off. Now this news about Gnanavel Raja having paid Kamal Haasan is being spread to tarnish his image, the letter alleges.
According to the complaint filed by Gnanavel Raja, as per the agreement, Kamal Haasan had agreed to work in a movie produced by the former’s production house. However, with the project not taking off even after four years, the producer was reportedly forced to file a complaint.
