Julie of 'Bigg Boss' fame to play Anitha, TN girl who died by suicide

Written by : Digital Native

The suicide of S Anitha, from rural south Tamil Nadu, shook the entire nation last year. Aspiring for a medical college seat, Anitha decided to end her life after she secured low marks in the NEET, which the government of India made mandatory for a seat in the medical colleges across the country. Having continued her education under the Samacheer Kalvi syllabus, Anitha was unable to crack the NEET and committed suicide.

Now, the tale of this youngster is all set to be made into a film and Julie of Jallikattu and Bigg Boss fame will play the lead role. Julie was last seen in a cameo in Vemal’s Mannar Vagaiyara and will be making her debut in a lead role in a film titled Uthami.

Titled as Dr. S Anitha MBBS, the film’s first look poster was unveiled recently and Julie, adorned in a black dress with a book on her lap, looks convincing enough in the skin of the character. The title comes with the tagline: “Pennalla Adhaiyum Thaandi Punidhamaanaval.” Julie is elated over being chosen for the film and says that it is a pleasure to act in movies that are made for a social cause.

On accepting the offer to play the role, Julie had told the Times of India, “I said ‘yes’ the moment I was approached for the film. These days, when most of the people are taking movies for commercial purpose, this one is for a social cause. So, I wanted to give this a shot. I know there are many people against me — I have faced political issues, too. But I’m happy to be a part of a project which throws light on Anitha’s life.”

It may be mentioned here that Julie is a former nurse who shot to limelight for her protests during the Jallikattu and this helped her enter the Bigg Boss show, a reality show on television that was hosted by the Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan.
