The News Minute | September 4, 2014 | 11:01 am ISTIn a remote village in the Indian state of Jharkhand, Mangli gets married. The wedding could pass off as a typical one; villagers take part in celebrations as the rituals unfold. The bride is Mangli Munda, an 18-year-old draped in a red and white saree, a gaudy piece of red and golden cloth covering her head. A video uploaded by BarcoftTV on Youtube captures the groom Sheru arriving in a chauffeur driven car, literally being carried by another person.And in a traditional ceremony both get married. However, it is unclear whether the groom had any idea about what he was getting into. Sheru is a dog, a stray one, but nonetheless a dog. Mangli's father Amnmunda got his daughter married to a canine because he believed that Mangli was cursed and would bring bad luck to any man she married. By getting married to the dog, Mangli would pass the evil in her to the dog, and she would not face any obstacles when she gets married to a man, says the father to BarcoftTV. The marriage was arranged on the advice of holymen. "I am not happy with this marriage", says a newly married Mangli with vermilion on her forehead.Mangli also doesn't seem to be too sure of the whole theory about her bearing bad luck. "The villagers say my curse will be transferred to the dog once I get married to him. Many other girls have done this and they later went on to marry men and are lead well-settled lives.", she says.At the end of the wedding, the dog is tied up to a door and Mangli's family say that they will take care of him. Sheru will be their new pet.  Mangli seems to be content that the curse has been lifted off her and is waiting to get married to her prince charming. Watch BarcoftTV's report here:
