Veteran actor Jayasudha who was last seen in Vamsi Padidipally's Tamil film Thozha which had Karthi, Nagarjuna, and Tamannaah, will be doing a pivotal role in Mani Ratnam's upcoming mega-budget Tamil multi-starrer.

She was also a part of Mani Ratnam’s super hit romance, Alaipayuthey.

“There is one important role in the film and Mani Ratnam specially asked Jayasudha to do it and she immediately agreed to come onboard,” says a source.

Jayasudha a popular Telugu heroine in the late 1970s and '80s, has acted with several heroes, including NTR, ANR and Chiranjeevi.

The actor has not signed any film after her husband breathed his last six months ago. It is going to be her first project after the incident.

The multi-starrer will feature Arvind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu and Fahadh Faasil. The film also stars Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh as female lead while two more female leads are yet to be finalised.

While A.R Rahman, the double Oscar-winning composer, will score the music, national award-winning editor Sreekar Prasad will take care of the editing department. Santosh Sivan will be cranking the camera.

Though Mani Ratnam has worked with Arvind Swami in Roja, Thalapathi, Bombay and Kadal, the film marks his first collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu and Fahadh. This film will mark Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil’s third straight Tamil after his debut film Velaikaran with Sivakarthikeyan and Super Deluxe with Vijay Sethupathi.

According to sources from the director's camp, following the debacle of Kaatru Veliyidai, he didn’t want to do another romantic film. The new film is reportedly a thriller.

Mani Ratnam's last outing Kaatru Veliyidai which starred Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles, took a great opening but bombed at the box office. The pre-release buzz in the urban centres paved way for excellent opening, but right from the first day, mixed reviews and general audiences expressed their disappointment about the lack of the usual Mani Ratnam magic. The film also failed to attract the audience in B and C Centres-the non-Mani Ratnam territory.
