It’s Mohanlal vs Nivin Pauly in ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’

Written by : Digital Native

Recently, Mohanlal had posted a still of himself with Nivin Pauly from his upcoming film Kayamkulam Kochunni and this had gone viral as expected. While Nivin Pauly plays the title role in the film, Mohanlal will be seen as Ithikkara Pakki in it. Interestingly, both are legendary Robin Hood type characters who lived in central Travancore during the 19th century.

Mohanlal, who has an interesting line-up of films getting ready for release, joined the sets of Kayamkulam Kochunni earlier this week. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film has been written by Bobby and Sanjay. The star cast of the film includes Mohanlal, Nivin Pauly, Priya Anand, Priyanka Thimmesh, Sunny Wayne and Babu Antony.

It may be mentioned here that while the story of the film would revolve around Nivin Pauly’s character Kayamkulam Kochunni, Mohanlal will be seen in an extended cameo. The star had completed shooting of the Ajoy Varma directorial earlier this month and hopped on to the sets of Kayamkulam Kochunni to wrap up his portions.

The shooting of the film is currently in progress in Mangalore. According to reports, the team will move over to Sri Lanka for the next schedule where some important portions would be canned.

Nivin Pauly had to do a lot of homework to get into the skin of the character. He took training in Kerala’s traditional martial arts Kalaripayatt to play the 19th century highway robber. With short-cropped hair, handlebar moustache and a beefed up physique, Nivin will sport a menacing look in the film. And with Mohanlal losing some weight for Odiyan, his looks in the movie will be a special treat to watch as well.

Gopi Sunder is scoring the music for this flick with Binod Pradhan cranking the camera and A Sreekar Prasad editing it. The film will be out in theatres later this year, say sources.
