High pay hurting Tollywood, we should follow profit-sharing formula: Naga Chaitanya

Written by : TNM

Tollywood star Naga Chaitanya has spoken in favour of the producers and has called for profit-sharing formula instead of opting for high remuneration. The star has said that the actual production cost of a film is 50% but the remuneration of the actors in the cast takes up another 50%. When a movie doesn’t do too well at the box office, it naturally hurts the producers’ bank balance and doesn’t enable them to make another film soon.

Stating that Tollywood stars should follow the profit-sharing formula adopted by their Bollywood counterparts, Naga Chaitanya urged the actors in Tollywood to consider it. Profit-sharing means the actors would be paid after the film’s release depending on how it fares at the box office. There are reports that some Tollywood stars like Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR are already following this mode of payment. Naga Chaitanya hoped the situation would change soon.

Speaking in favour of the producers, Naga Chaitanya had said in an interview, “From a long time, Bollywood heroes are taking a share in profits rather taking huge fee in advance. Even Telugu heroes should do the same to save the producers. I'm ready to work on those lines.” Incidentally, Naga Chaitanya is the son of actor and producer Nagarjuna and knows the problems faced by the producers after watching his father from close quarters.

Naga Chaitanya’s last release was Rarandoi Veduka Chudham on May 26, 2017. Directed by Kalyan Krishna Kurasala, the film was bankrolled by Nagarjuna under his home banner Annapurna Studios. Devi Sri Prasad had composed music for this film with SV Vishweshwar cranking the camera and Gautham Raju editing it. The film had Rakul Preet Singh playing Naga Chaitanya’s lead pair.
