Superstar Rajinikanth’s fans are in for a treat as one of his biggest hits, Baasha has been digitally re-mastered and is set to release on January 10.

The re-mastered version with 5.1 surround system, is set to be premiered at Sathyam Cinemas.

The mega-hit Baasha was a trendsetter in the nineties and was the first of many films that showed the hero in a ‘negative’ role, though not throughout the film.

Baasha helmed by Suresh Krissna was released in 1995 and ran for 368 days. It grossed record collections and went on to become a massive hit, in which Rajini played an auto driver with a deadly flashback.

The Super Star became an overnight rage among the auto drivers of Tamil Nadu — and his punch line ‘Naan oru dhadavai sonna, nooru dhadavai sonna maadhri!’ was immortalised.

The film was digitally restored in 2012 and released in Hindi. Director Suresh Krishna and the star were reportedly in talks over a sequel to the movie, with Rajini turning it down, saying it was best to leave Baasha as it is claiming new efforts could not equal the film.
