Hanan, the 20-year-old college student from Kerala, who shot to fame after a photo of her selling fish in Kochi markets went viral, is now going to play the lead role in a biopic.

She will be seen playing the role of Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, the adorable blind singer, who came to Malayalam cinema through singing 'Katte Katte’ for Celluloid. She has also sung for quite a few Tamil movies. Last year, she made her debut in Telugu with Meda Meeda Abbayi

Confirming the news, Hanan has told in an interview to manoramaonline, “I will be playing the central character in the movie. It will be a challenge and will be an exciting venture. As of now, I can't reveal any other details.”

Besides the Vaikom Vijayalakshmi biopic, Hanan has several other film offers in her kitty as well. Some of the projects she had inked so far are Soubin Sahir's Ara Kallan Mukkal KallanMittayi Therivu and Viral 2019

The young student was caught in a controversy when certain false reports emerged that pictures of her selling fish were part of a fake ploy. However, after her college principal and others came in support of Hanan, all doubts were put to rest about Hanan’s genuinity.

Arun Gopy who had directed Dileep’s Ramaleela, was the first to come up with an acting offer for Hanan. He had later said that he would withdraw the offer if her story was fake.

But now, Hanan appears to be flooded with offers. Playing Vaikom Vijayalakshmi would be extra challenging since the singer is also an expert of a musical instrument called Gayathriveena. Veteran singer KJ Yesudas is believed to have been impressed by her knowledge of the ragas when he met her as a child of six.

Vijayalakshmi went on to make a name for herself for her unique song rendition and voice, working with musicians like Ousepachan, Bijibal and Shaan Rahman in Malayalam, and Santhosh Narayanan, D Imman and GV Prakash Kumar in Tamil. She won the Kerala state award for best singer for her rendition of ‘Ottaku Paadunna’, for the film Nadan.
