First look poster for 'Mom', Sridevi's next, promises an intense drama

Queen of hearts Sridevi made a terrific comeback with her film English Vinglish in 2012. A comic drama on the trials and tribulations of an Indian homemaker who finds herself alienated from her family because of her lack of knowledge of English, the film also managed to ask uncomfortable questions about the Indian family and how it treats women.

Now, Sridevi is back with Mom, directed by Ravi Udyawar. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna and Abhimanyu Singh. The first look of the film's poster was released on Tuesday and it shows a grim Sridevi captured in a profile shot.

The darkness in the image suggests that the film will be an intense drama. The word 'Mom' is scrawled all over Sridevi's picture in different languages - perhaps an original take on motherhood and what it means to take on that mantle? Or is it about a woman's search for identity once she becomes a mother?

Sridevi tweeted the poster with the line, "When a woman is challenged..." suggesting that the film could be a mother embarking on a crusade.

Sridevi was last seen in the Tamil film Puli which bombed at the box-office. But obviously, that has had no dent at all in her popularity. Her fans are delighted with the new poster and are going gaga over it on social media.
