Written by : Digital Native

Dr Rajasekhar’s upcoming film Kalki has landed in trouble after charges of copyright violation. Writer Karthikeya aka Prasad has claimed that the story of Kalki is his and he came to know that it has been used without his knowledge after watching the film’s teaser that was released recently. The matter has been brought to the Telugu Cine Writers’ Association and veteran writer BVS Ravi is mediating in the issue between the Directors’ Association and the Cine Writers Association.

In fact, BVS Ravi started the Katha Hakkula Vedhika a year ago to deal with such issues after too many complaints regarding copyright violations came to the fore. The idea behind Katha Hakkula Vedhika is to resolve such issues without the intervention of courts.

On the Kalki issue, BVS Ravi said in a recent interview to Deccan Chronicle, “The script submitted by Karthikeya and that of Kalki are different and there are no primary similarities. If, after our intervention, they are still not satisfied, we will take discussions further. In cases where there are similarities, the original writer will be given credit and also paid remuneration (sic).” Talking about how decisions are arrived at, he added, “Telugu Film Directors Association President and Secretary N Shankar and Ram Prasad guide us to take a decision.”

Directed by Awe fame Prasanth Varma, Kalki stars Dr Rajasekhar in the role of a cop. The star cast includes Adah Sharma and Nanditha Shwetha as the female leads. Poojitha Ponnada, Scarlett Mellish Wilson, Rahul Ramakrishna, Nassar, Ashtosh Rana, Siddu Jonnalagadda, Shatru, Charandeep, Venugopal, Vennela Ramarao, DS Rao, Amith Sharma and Sathish will feature in supporting roles.

The shooting of this film began on September 19 last year and it is now in the post-production mode. Sets for the film were erected in the Patancheru area in Hyderabad, where the first schedule began. The cost of this set alone was estimated to be around Rs 2 crore. Sources in film circles say that Kalki will be the costliest film ever by Dr Rajasekhar till date.
