After months of delay, there’s some good news for Dhanush’s fans. The Maari actor’s highly anticipated gangster drama Vada Chennai, which will be helmed by National award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran, finally went on the floors on Wednesday in Chennai. In a specially erected jail set, the makers will shoot key scenes in the first schedule. While it was reported earlier that the film will be shot in two parts, it has now been confirmed by Dhanush that this will be a trilogy, which has never been attempted before in Tamil cinema.

Sharing the news, Dhanush wrote on his Twitter page that Wednesday was the first day of the shoot of Vada Chennai, a project which has been in the offing for many years. The story will track 30 years in the life of a gangster, played by Dhanush, who has already set aside over 200 days for this epic project. Having almost completed Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thota, Dhanush is most likely going to finish shooting for his portion in the first part and then commence work on Karthik Subbaraj’s project. Meanwhile, he will also be required to spare two weeks for his Hollywood project.

The film, which will be jointly bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Wunderbar Films, also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani and Daniel Balaji.
