Dhanush’s 'Maari 2' shoot wrapped up

Balaji Mohan’s Maari featured Dhanush in the memorable role of a local ruffian. The film’s sequel is gearing up for release later this year and features an ensemble cast that includes Sai Pallavi, Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar, Tovino Thomas and Krishna among others.

Over the weekend, Dhanush took to Twitter to announce the shoot completion of Maari 2, and added that he loved being part of the project. He also wrote that he enjoyed playing his character.

Maari 2 was supposed to materialize much earlier but due to Dhanush’s multiple commitments, including his directorial project Power Paandi, the project had to be pushed. In the film, Dhanush played a dhoti-clad, mustache-twirling local rowdy and he will return in the same getup for the sequel, which will be bankrolled by Wunderbar Films.

Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, who has worked in films such as Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha and recently in Dhanush’s debut Malayalam production Tharanga, has been roped in to play the baddie in Maari 2. The film has been made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu.

Since it was recently confirmed that Dhanush plans to release Vada Chennai in September, it’s quite likely that Maari 2 might release for Dussehra festival. Maari 2 marks the reunion of Dhanush and composer Yuvan Shankar Raja after 9 years.

They last worked together in 2008 film Yaaradi Nee Mohini, a remake of Telugu film Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule. It’ll be an interesting combination to look forward to as the duo has given several chartbusters over the years. Meanwhile, Dhanush will commence work on his second yet-untitled directorial project from later this month.

Having completed all of his pending projects and on the verge of wrapping up of Enai Noki Paayum Thota, Dhanush is believed to have signed a new project with producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, who had recently bankrolled VIP 2.  If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, Dhanush and Thanu will join hands for a new project later this year. Not long ago, reports emerged that producerThanu had acquired the Tamil remake rights of Telugu film Needi Naadi Oke Katha and has plans to make it with Dhanush.
