Actor Dhanush’s latest production Amma Kannaku, the Tamil version of recently released Hindi drama, Nil Battey Sannata, will finally release in cinemas on June 17.

Both the versions of the film were supposed to have a simultaneous release. However, for unknown reasons the Tamil version of the movie was postponed by a couple of months. After winning over audiences and critics alike, Dhanush will be hoping to repeat the success with Amma Kannaku, which is an emotional yet funny tale about the bond between a mother and her daughter. While Swara Bhaskar played the mother in the Hindi version, Amala Paul will be essaying the same in the Tamil version.

The film was never intended to be made in Tamil until filmmaker Anand L. Rai (Ranjhanaa director) showed parts of Nil Battey Sannata to Dhanush, impressed with what he saw, Dhanush insisted that the film be also made in Tamil and he agreed to produce it under his own banner Wunderbar Films. Having already worked with Amala in Vela Illa Pattathari, it was Dhanush who recommended her to director Ashwini Iyer Tiwari.

Amma Kannaku’s music was composed by maestro Ilayaraja, and it also stars Revathy and National award-winning actor Samuthirakani. In the film, Amala plays the role of a mother to a 13-year old girl.
