No amount of High Court orders or freak accidents where motorists and enthusiastic fans have lost their lives seem to deter certain fans from pushing the bill too high. Described on Twitter as “history” and “world’s largest cut-out” is actor Suriya’s biggest cut-out in Thiruttani. Looks like the soaring mercury levels in this part of Tamil Nadu, the first town to record the highest temperature in the state, seems to have had no effect on the fans who worked towards making this happen.
The cut-out, which is supposedly is 215 ft high, has Suirya in his folded veshti and shirt, standing with a burning torch in one hand, reminding us of the Statue of Liberty. An aerial view shot shows the structure standing on a ground with buildings around.

To put things into perspective, Mumbai’s The Imperial II, considered the tallest in the country is 840 feet high.
In 2017, the Madras High Court banned such displays and asked the government to ensure that "photos or pictures of such persons who are alive shall not be depicted by way of those banners, flex boards, sign-boards."
This feat, of erecting the "world’s largest cut-out" seems to have been accomplished by 'Tiruttani Suriya Fort', a fan page on Twitter. Videos of the cut-out being erected were also shared from their account. A grand welcome ceremony seems to have been organised for May 30 at 4.00 pm. Suriya's NGK will release on May 31.
Time and again, we’ve seen cases of cut-outs falling on fans or fans falling down from a height, succumbing to their injuries. In October 2014, a tragic incident took place in Palakkad during the celebrations of the release of Vijay’s Kaththi when a man fell down from the star's flex while performing 'milk abhishekam’.
Earlier this year, during the release of Ajith’s Viswasam at a theatre in Villupuram, the star’s cut-out came tumbling down when fans started climbing it, greviously injuring three.
The culture of over-the-top celebrations by cinema fans has been a long standing tradition in the state and it is high time stars took responsibility to advise their fans against it.
