Deepika and Ranveer are engaged! Here’s everything we know so far

Written by : TNM Staff

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, arguably Bollywood’s ‘it’ couple, left for Italy last weekend with their wedding entourage. People have been eagerly waiting for any news about the couple’s wedding festivities, which would include two wedding ceremonies - as per Sindhi and Konkani traditions respectively.

And according to the latest reports, ‘DeepVeer’ as they are being called by fans, are officially engaged! The duo exchanged rings a day before their twin wedding ceremonies on November 14 and 15 respectively.

The engagement happened in a Konkani style ‘Phool Muddi’ ceremony. Phool Muddi translates to a ‘flower ring’ in Konkani. Ranveer, in an endearing gesture, went down on his knee, and reportedly spoke a few emotional words about his bride-to-be before putting a ring on Deepika’s finger.

The wedding festivities so far

The wedding festivities kicked off on Tuesday with a grand sangeet at Casta Diva, a luxury resort in village Blevio in Lake Como. The groom Ranveer made a grand entry singing the song Tune Maari Entriyaan from his film Gunday, presumably about how his wife-to-be makes his heart flutter. The sangeet included old Hindi classics as well as wedding favourites such as Mehendi Hai Rachne Wali, Gur Naal Ishq Mitha and Kala Shaka La.

Ranveer and Deepika have dated for six years before getting hitched, and the occasion is sure to be an emotional one for the couple and their loved ones. In fact, Deepika reportedly got emotional and broke down during her mehendi ceremony as singer Shubha Mudgil was performing a thumri. She smiled again when Ranveer comforted her with a hug. “He ensured she was smiling again with all his crazy love antics,” a wedding guest told Pinkvilla.

After a brief honeymoon, the couple plans to return to India and will have a grand reception for friends in the film fraternity at the Grant Hyatt in Mumbai on November 28.

No wedding gifts, charity instead

Deepika and Ranveer have kept their wedding festivities a close-knit affair with only select friends and family present, three-layer security and no phones are allowed.

What’s more, their wedding invite reportedly directed guests not to bring wedding gifts, but to contribute to the charities they support instead. “Directing all gifts in the form of a donation to the charity we support will be greatly appreciated,” a picture of a page of the invite reads. It directs the attendees to give a cheque in the name of The Live Love Laugh Foundation, started by Deepika to raise awareness about depression and mental health.
