Baby, Andhra woman whose 'O Cheliya' video went viral, gets to sing in Telugu film

Written by : TNM Staff

It was only a month ago that Baby, a woman from the Vadisileru village in East Godavari district, took social media by storm in a video where she sings the Telugu song ‘O Cheliya Naa Priya Sakhiya’ from the movie Premikudu. Baby shot to fame after music director AR Rahman shared the video with the words ‘Unknown, Anonymous, beautiful voice’, on his Facebook page. The video was quick to get millions of shares on Facebook and there were also reports that music director Koteswara Rao had already given Baby an offer to sing for a Telugu movie.

Now, Baby has got her first big break from music director Raghu Kunche, who convinced the makers of the upcoming Telugu movie Palasa 1978 to introduce Baby. Recently, Raghu released a short video, in which Baby can be seen recording her first song in Hyderabad. Though it was her first recording, Baby delivered a stellar performance and her vocals are quite impressive.

Raghu Kunche, a singer, actor and dubbing artiste, is a prominent face in the Telugu film industry. He has sung more than 600 songs in Telugu films. ‘Enduke Ravanamma’, a song about recession from the movie Bumper Offer, shot him to fame.

According to reports, in order to make the song an inspirational one, Raghu Kunche asked Lakshmi Bhupala, the lyricist, to write the song based on Baby's life journey. In the video that was released a few days ago on YouTube, the starting line of the song goes: ‘Matti Manishinandi Nenu...Maanikyam Annaru Nannu' (I am just made of this land, but they called me a gem), probably referring to how people on social media catapulted Baby to fame, who until then had led an ordinary life in her village.

Baby has reportedly been approached by music director Koteswara Rao as well. A video of Baby meeting actor Chiranjeevi, along with Koteswara Rao, at the former’s residence, has already gone viral. It seems now that this talented artiste is going to have some busy days ahead.
