Following their successful collaboration in films such as Ayan and Maattrran, Suriya and filmmaker KV Anand have joined hands for the third time for an action-thriller, currently dubbed as Suriya 37.

Being bankrolled by Lyca Productions on a lavish budget, the project officially went on the floors on June 25 in London. The regular shooting began with an official pooja ceremony which was attended by Suriya, Anand and other leading cast and crew members of the film, which also stars Sayyeshaa, Mohanlal, Arya, Boman Irani, Allu Sirish and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. Over the last few weeks, reports emerged that Sirish has opted out of the project and that Arya was brought in as his replacement. 

On Friday, Sirish took to Twitter to confirm his exit from the project. He wrote: “This is to let you all know about my part in Suriya 37. My dates required for the film was clashing with my other film ABCD. The shoot dates could not be rescheduled because of the logistics involved. Keeping in mind the best interest of both the films, I volunteered to step down from the role. And the director KV Anand sir too has understood the issue and accepted my decision.”

Sirish went on to add he’s really looking forward to the release of the film and thanked the makers for the opportunity.

Earlier this month, Arya officially signed for the project. Some reports claim that Arya plays the antagonist in the film. If true, it’ll be really interesting to see Arya in a role that’ll be a welcome departure from his regular roles in Tamil cinema.

Arya had played a negative role in Malayalam film The Great Father, starring Mammootty. Suriya 37 will be shot in nearly ten countries and the crew has already zeroed in on some picturesque locations in New York, Brazil, England, Hyderabad and New Delhi. The film is touted to be the costliest project in Suriya’s career.
