Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth Dhanush has released her debut memoir, “Standing on an apple box”, where she attempts to breath the myth and misconceptions surrounding star children.

In an interview to NDTV, Aishwarya talks about her sheltered upbringing and how her first time at a disco was with her father superstar Rajinikanth, when she turned 18.

"It was December 31 and my birthday falls on January 1 and I wanted to see a disco, and Appa said 'fine, I will take you.' It was New Year's Eve. We went in and he says, 'now you have seen what it looks like, let's leave.' He had anticipated rightly, a crowd broke out seeing him in their midst but he also wanted to keep my heart and not deny me what I wanted," Aishwaryaa said.

She credits her mother Latha Rajinikanth for keeping her and her sister Soundarya away from her father’s stardom but says Rajinikanth would never joke about his mass fandom. “You will never see him joke about it or mock it or do something that will reflect badly. He takes it very seriously. He is someone who regards every film as his first. You never know what will work with the audience and what will not. The beauty of cinema is its unpredictability.”
