Dhanush’s Vada Chennai has faced more setbacks than any project in the recent past. Having gone on the floors after a long wait last November, the film’s first schedule was wrapped successfully. Director Vetrimaaran had to take a break for the Oscar campaign of Visaaranai, forcing the team to take a three-month break. In the interim, Dhanush moved on to other commitments as he had multiple projects in his kitty. However, Vijay Sethupathi had no other option but to walk out of the project due to a clash of dates.

Amala Paul is the latest to walk out of the project, owing to unavailability of dates. She has been replaced by Aishwarya Rajesh of Kaaka Muttai fame. There’s still no clarity on when the shoot of the film will recommence as Dhanush will get busy with his Hollywood project from May. In his interview to Film Companion, national award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran had said that Vada Chennai is a very expensive film.

According to industry grapevine, Vada Chennai will be the costliest film in Dhanush’s career. “The first schedule of Vada Chennai cost us more than the entire budget of Visaaranai”, said director Vetrimaaran in a recent interview.

Touted to be a gangster trilogy, the film will track 30 years in the life of a gangster from the years 1977 to 2007. The film also stars Samuthirakani, Andrea, Kishore, Karunas and Ace villain actor, Daniel Balaji. Vada Chennai is being jointly produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films and Lyca Productions.
