Director Krish is basking in glory over the massive success of the Balakrishna starrer Gautamiputra Satakarani, a period film.

The film, released to packed houses as a Sankaranti treat, has been doing well at the box office.

Speaking to The Hindu, Krish recalled his fascination for history, which was instilled in him by his grandfather and his drive to make period films. He said, “He was a police officer. He introduced me to books, from Amar Chitra Katha to Chandamama and as I grew up, other books. He’d take us to Amaravati, which as a child I felt was an exciting place to learn about history and culture. I don’t know when I began to be fascinated with history, but I’ve always liked to listen to and narrate stories.”

On how he got Balakrishna onboard, Krish said that when he mentioned the Satakarni story to him during a phone call, the star evinced interest immediately and wanted him to come over for further discussions.

Hardly a few days into the film’s release, director Krish is back in the news.

This time around, it is for signing up a project that will be Venkatesh’s 75the film. The director revealed the news during the interview. He was reported as saying, “I’m becoming a landmark director.”
