Veteran cinematographer Madhu Ambat is gearing up for the release of his 250th film. The shooting for the film, titled Pani, is over and it is now in the post-production mode. Helmed by Santhosh Mandoor, the film will mark his directorial debut.
The film is about a family moving from Kerala to Tamil Nadu and the issues the family members face in the new state. To be precise, the film will centre around a family headed by Raghavan that relocates to rural Madurai from Palakkad.
Revealing details about the film, which is about the practice known as ‘Thalaikoothal’, the director had recently said in an interview, “This heinous custom of Thalaikoothal was practiced to end the suffering of the elderly people who were severely ill and it was carried out with the help of a person after getting confirmation from the family. But, now the children think that they have the liberty to kill their parents even if it is for money and they treat it as a natural death.”
Pani stars MR Gopakumar and Roslin as the lead pair with Nishanth Sagar, Anjali, Aimy, Vasan, Ranju Achyuthan Changoor, Aravindan Alavil and Rajmithran in supporting roles. It is bankrolled by Sauda Sheriff and Ameer Sheriff.
Madhu Ambat is a maverick cinematographer having cranked the camera for several films in his long career. Pani is his 250th film, making it an important venture in his career. The ace cameraman has won several prestigious awards, including three National awards. He bagged the coveted award thrice for Best Cinematography – for Adi Sankaracharya (Sanskrit) in 1984, Best Cinematography – Sringaram (Tamil) in 2006 and Best Cinematography – Adaminte Makan Abu (Malayalam) in 2010. Madhu Ambat has also won the Kerala State Film Awards three times for Aswathama, Sooryante Maranam and Yaro Oral in 1978, Purushartham and Swathi Thirunal in 1987 and Amaram in 1990.
