Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan have been roped in to star in the Hindi remake of Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Vikram Vedha, a neo-noir thriller which was one of the most successful Tamil films of 2017.

According to a report in Filmfare, while Aamir will be essaying Vijay Sethupathi’s gangster character, Saif will replace Madhavan as the honest cop. While the remake would be helmed by the husband-wife duo Pushkar-Gayathri, who had directed the original, the film will go on floors by March 2020. Last year, it was announced that the Hindi remake will be produced by Y NOT Studios and Plan C Studios, which is a collaboration of Reliance Entertainment and Neeraj Pandey’s Friday Filmworks.

There were several film companies in Bollywood that desperately wanted to lay their hands on the rights to remake the film and earlier, actor Shah Rukh Khan was rumored to portray Vijay Sethupathi’s character in the Hindi version, with Madhavan reprising his role from the 2017 Tamil film.

Vikram Vedha, released in 2017, turned out to be a hit at the box office. The film starred R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles with Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Shraddha Srinath playing the female leads. An action entertainer, Vikram Vedha has been written and directed by Pushkar and Gayathri and produced by S Sashikanth under his banner Y NOT Studios. Made on a budget of Rs 11 crores, it collected about Rs 50 crores at the box office. According to trade reports, the film grossed Rs 10 crores during the opening week in Tamil Nadu. CS Sam had composed the tunes for this flick with PS Vinod cranking the camera and Richard Kevin editing it. Vikram Vedha was not only a commercial success but also turned out to be a critically acclaimed film.
